'Social magazine' Flipboard comes to Android

Flipboard confirmed yesterday that an Android version of its news reader is in the works.

"Flipboard will be available soon on Android mobile phones," the company said on a placeholder Website.

Those interested in trying it out and providing feedback can sign up to gain access to the beta by sending Flipboard to your Email.
The company had few other details about the app and how it might differ from its Apple's iOS counterparts, however.

Flipboard made its debut on the iPad in 2010, and came to the iPhone late last year, quickly logging 1 million downloads.

The free app scans your friends' Facebook and Twitter posts and presents their links and articles in a magazine-like layout.

Flipboard is the brainchild of Mike McCue, former CEO of Tellme, and Evan Doll, a former iPhone engineer at Apple.
Investors include Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, and Ashton Kutcher.
The company raised US$10.5 million in a Series A venture capital round.

The last social app to make a splashy debut on the Google's Android platform, meanwhile, was Instagram.
Within days, it had been snapped up by Facebook for a cool US$1 billion.
