After the
Libretto, a very exciting dual-screen tablet, rumors have it that Toshiba is readying what observers will claim to be a so-called
iPad-killer, the
Toshiba Smart Pad, also found under the name of
Toshiba Folio 100 (picture).
Here’s a full list of specs and features for the Folio 100, although we have
no way of knowing whether they’re the real thing or not for now:
- Android 2.2 (code name Froyo)
- Processor: NVIDIA Tegra 2
- Display: 10.1inch multitouch display with 1,024 x 600 screen display
- Audio: 2 stereo speakers and microphone
- Storage: 16GB of internal memory
- Networking: 802.11b/g/n WiFi, USB 2.0
- Card reader: SD up to 32GB
- Battery: 1020mAh; up to 7 hours of life with mixed use
- Internet: Opera Mobile Browser with Flash
10.1
- Multimedia: 1.3-megapixel Webcam
- Dimensions: 281 x 181 x 14mm
- Weight: 760gr
The
Folio 100 sounds pretty interesting so far so we’ll be waiting for IFA 2010 to
see if Toshiba will make it official or not.
Nevertheless, these leaks fail to tell us anything about content. Sure there will be plenty of
apps available from the Android Market, but what about video and eBook support?
Nothing is known as yet.
Toshiba
seems to have great plans for this tablet as the Folio 100 already has
accessories lined up for consumers.
And since the Smart Pad name is apparently
used to indicate the product category, we can only assume similar devices will
follow in the future.
After Toshiba Libretto, Toshiba Folio 100:
Two tablet devices with their own personalities and interest.
It seems that Toshiba decided to become not another iPad-killer-hopeful by trying to copy what Apple did, but by developing tablets of their own rights.
